Calculation methodology
The tools are designed to make the assumptions visible. Inputs are converted to a common internal unit before calculation, results are rounded for display only, and production-specific uncertainty is called out instead of hidden.
Unit handling
Length inputs are converted internally to millimetres. Supported units include millimetres, centimetres, metres, inches, feet, micrometres and mil where appropriate. Conversions use exact relationships such as 25.4 mm per inch.
Roll geometry
This geometric model treats the wound material as a uniform annulus. It is appropriate for estimation, but real rolls can differ because of winding tension, compression, air, adhesive behavior, caliper variation, splices and measurement error.
Label count
Repeat pitch is normally label length plus the machine-direction gap. Whole repeats are used for finished label counts. For multiple labels across, repeats are multiplied by the number of columns.
Reverse roll diameter
Required web length is based on whole machine-direction repeats and can include additional leader/trailer allowance.
Thermal ribbon
Ribbon calculations assume ribbon travel approximately follows media travel. A user-supplied waste percentage can account for non-printing consumption, but printer backfeed, calibration behavior and process-specific ribbon usage can differ.
ZPL dots
Dot dimensions are rounded to whole dots. The generated ^PW and ^LL values are basic size commands, not a complete printer configuration.
Sheet layout
Sheet yield is calculated independently in normal and 90-degree rotated orientations after subtracting margins and including gaps. Production features such as bleed, gripper, registration marks and cutter tolerances are not inferred automatically.
Verification approach
Formula functions are covered by automated unit tests for known geometry, unit conversions, reverse calculations, web width, ribbon capacity, ZPL dots and sheet layouts. A production build runs type and Astro checks before deployment.
